Songs in the Night

Throughout Annie's illness and now since she's been in heaven, I have almost a continuous playlist in my head of songs that bring immense comfort, and remind me that God is near. The Bible says that He gives songs in the night, (Job 35:10), and I have truly experienced that in this dark time of our lives. One that keeps coming to mind is referenced in a comment from my last post, by Tanis, which we also included at Annie's memorial service:

In Christ Alone
In Christ alone my hope is found,
He is my light, my strength, my song;
this Cornerstone, this solid Ground,
firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
when fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My Comforter, my All in All,
here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone! who took on flesh
Fulness of God in helpless babe!
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones he came to save:
Till on that cross as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied -
For every sin on Him was laid;
Here in the death of Christ I live.

There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain:
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave he rose again!
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me,
For I am His and He is mine -
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

No guilt in life, no fear in death,
This is the power of Christ in me;
From life's first cry to final breath.
Jesus commands my destiny.
No power of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
Till He returns or calls me home,
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand.          Stuart Townend

It is my favorite hymn. Life is like a waiting room. We wait to be reconciled with Jesus. Praying for your family, Tanis

Jean, I do believe God gave us the intrinsic NEED to be in song of all kinds to express our soul's emotion. Sometimes, when home during the day alone, I simply sing out to the Lord in songs I create off the top of my head...to let him hear my voice and to know that I adore and worship him. It brings me so close to the Lord, for me to sing in an imperfect voice, unaccompanied, from the heart, sometimes with tears streaming down my face...I know He hears me and smiles. Being in song can give our soul direction when it feels as if it is searching. Keep singing. Thank You God for Song and I often think of King David and his beautiful celebration in song and dance for the Lord...if only I could've been able to watch his worship in this way. Oh well...one day, God will play all the rewind tapes of life!! Til then, we sing.

So glad he brings comfort thru music. Love that hymn. It'll be in my head all day, now. ;) But that's a good thing.
