The first day of school...

...is tomorrow for most of my kids--for Annie it's Thursday, because she's got doctor appointments down at Children's most of the day. But, yes, Thursday's the big first day at preschool. I'm not too worried or anything. The short bus picks her up here at the house, and then my last little kiddle goes to school. Speaking of short buses, I need to read a book called, oddly enough, "The Short Bus: a Journey Beyond Normal," by Jonathan Mooney. Have any of you heard of it? I guess the guy graduated from Brown University after conquering all the emotional and mental trauma of having been labeled "less than" all his life.

Anyway--Annie has been expressing her wants, needs and desires LOUDLY the last few days. It's great...I think. She can now "tell" you that she wants water, she wants to go down the stairs, she doesn't want orange juice, she does want to go to bed, she doesn't want to practice walking, she does want to ride her bike outside of the backyard. Suddenly communication is not a problem. Now to put words with the motions.

Jean

Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them. But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.” And He took them up in His arms, laid His hands on them, and blessed them. Mark 10:13-16

WOW! WHAT A CONNECTION!!! Communication is awesome! God is so good. All the time. I hope she enjoys preschool and that you get a needed rest. Short bus and all. :) And...as far as ever being labeled "less than", Annie has 8 folks at home standing in the gap with her, and a whole church and extended family, so hopefully she'll never feel less than. She's a miracle. xxxooogretchen

Answered prayer is so beautiful, noisy and maybe a little stressful (it sounds like), but downright gorgeous none the less! Praise God!! And praise Him, too, for the respite the short bus will bring. I'll be praying for all of you as you all make all of the adjustments. (Life is a series of adjustments you know...........you get married, you adjust; you have a baby, you adjust; you get a new job, you adjust. I told my husband, Bill, my profound bit of wisdom one day and he said: "Hey, that would be a great ad for a chiropractor!" Happy adjusting.
Blessings and rest,
Terri

What super news, Jean! Yay for Annie for expressing herself so much. And yay God for bringing her to this place. And yeah... what Gretchen said! So many people have already been blessed by Annie and seeing God work His miracles in her. There may well be cruel people in her life who try to make her feel "less than" but WE know she is MORE than... and there are a whole bunch of people who will do our best to help her KNOW that as she grows!!

It IS pretty amazing, huh? Her communicating has just taken a huge leap. God HAS healed those neurons and synapses. And for those of you who actually think I'm LEAVING her at preschool....maybe sometime in May. Ha.

Kisses and smiles are worth a thousand words,
when words are scarce and quiet.
When silence is all that
escapes the lips
listen.
For it is in the kiss
that the sweet breath of love
floats on the currents of the heart.

Kisses and smiles
say so much more
than a thousand words.

And when a thousand words are thunderous
reaching out
crying out
shouting out
from beyond a darkened veil
a tiny light begins to shine
which grows
and grows
with every syllable uttered.
And we learn
to listen
not only to the words
but to the silence in between.

And may that silence in between
be filled with kisses and smiles.

That is worth keeping. Thank you, T!
Apparently, Annie is 'learning' to talk AGAIN. How cool is that? If you learn something twice, doesn't that mean you're better at it than those of us who only learned it once?

Glory Glory Hallelujah!

So - how is school for all the kids? I was always really happy to get back to school. I guess I just liked that routine. And so will Annie. And so will you.
God bless you all.
